Ensure visibility via social media

Due to social media things have really changed when it comes to ensuring or even increasing visibility. James Snider had to realize that:

“I was in international technology marketing for 15 years. I’d written articles, been quoted by the press, had dozens of press releases with my name in it, but still, the day after I was laid off, when I Googled my name, a 20 something guy’s Facebook account and a playground equipment installer’s Twitter account ranked higher than anything related to me. As a matter of fact, I was not even on the first page. Social media made it so others with my same name appeared higher the Google results that I did even with 15 years of commercial material bearing my name. Social media gives you equal footing with corporate America in getting your name out there. It is an equalizer for those who know to use it.”

It is more important than ever to not only be thinking about the business you currently work for, but yourself as well. Use social media to ensure your visibility and build your personal brand.
