Ipad & co. are replacing computers
Back in 2010, a few months after the iPad’s release, Steve Jobs predicted that tablets would eventually overtake PCs. Now, according to updated figures from Gartner, after five years of rather crazy tablet growth and slowly declining PC sales, 2015 will be the year that Jobs’ post-PC dream is finally realized.
In 2015, Gartner predicts a total of 320 million tablet sales, versus just 316 million PC sales (desktops and laptops).
Ipad & co. are now disrupting the restaurant industry
iPad has become a major disruptive force in changing the dynamics and fortunes of many different industries: traditional PC, cash register, marine navigation etc. The potential to disrupt several other businesses is huge.
How the turn has come to the restaurant industry. Restaurants everywhere are now replacing waiters with iPad menus at the table.
While paper menus, which have been around for centuries, still dominate the restaurant world, a growing number of restaurants are singing the praises of tablets to better serve their customers. Customers are able to browse the food menu and place their order which eventually gets posted in the kitchen display console.
Technology can help increase productivity, which is an important driver in profitability. In addition, consumers are showing an increasing interest in using technology in restaurants and because the industry is driven by consumer demand, it’s likely that we will see more technology integrated into the restaurant experience.
The future of restaurant ordering and design may be digital. The printing of menus will fade as iPads – and other devices – replace them.
